Sally Gordon Outstanding Legislative Page Endowed Scholarship
The Sally Gordon Outstanding Legislative Page Award recognizes excellence in achievement by college students who are second-year legislative pages in the Nebraska Unicameral. Sally Gordon had been an assistant sergeant-at-arms in the Nebraska Legislature for 27 years. In August 2010, the 101-year-old Gordon was honored in the Capitol Rotunda as America’s Outstanding Oldest worker for that year. Truly a Lincoln icon, Sally died on Valentine’s Day in 2012.
To be eligible you must be a 2nd-year Page at the Nebraska Legislature and have an outstanding academic record . Pages are college students who assist senators and the Clerk of the Legislature with various tasks, such as updating journals, distributing documents and answering phone calls in the legislative chamber during session. The applicant must be continuing his/her education the following fall, either as an undergraduate or graduate student, at a college or university in Lincoln, Nebraska. There is a preference for applicants with financial need.
