John Breslow Scholarships

The John Breslow Scholarship was created in 2007 to provide educational funding for Linweld employees and their dependents. After 2011, it continued to support those employees and their dependents, now working under the name of Matheson, at the former Linweld company locations. In 2017, the scholarships were expanded to include students of welding in any of the former Linweld site locations (see list below), as well as High School students enrolled in The Career Academy (Lincoln, NE) and SENCAP (Southeast Nebraska Career Academy Program).

1. A) Applicant must be a dependent of a current Matheson/Linweld employee* under the age of 25 as of the application deadline pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college, university, community college or trade school, or B) a high school welding student having Junior or Senior status at The Career Academy (TCA) at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE or in Southeast Nebraska Career Academy Programs (SENCAP), or C) a post-secondary student working on a welding certificate in communities of the former Linweld Inc. locations.

2. Annually, six scholarships will be awarded to employee* dependents. Of the six awarded to dependents, special preference will be given to those pursuing post-secondary degrees in welding, industrial distribution or related fields regardless of financial need. Annually, two scholarships will be awarded to applicants who are welding students of TCA or SENCAP, or are post-secondary students working on a welding certificate in communities of former Linweld Inc. locations. TCA and SENCAP scholarship recipients continuing their study of welding to receive certification will have preference for renewal of the scholarship in the following year.

3. This scholarship may be renewed for one additional year only upon resubmitting a fully completed application.

REQUIRED WITH APPLICATION: High school or college transcript(s) (copies of transcripts are acceptable). High school seniors must submit their high school transcript; high school graduates need only submit their college transcripts, the first page of the applicant’s FAFSA Report and two (2) letters of recommendation (no more than one year old) from teachers, counselors, clergy, employers, neighbors, etc. (letters from family members are not acceptable).

  • An employee is defined as any current Matheson/Linweld employee who is working at or assigned to for payroll costing purposes, any of the former Linweld Inc. locations. If a location within a city is moved to a different address in the same city these employees will remain eligible. Eligibility is verified by Matheson for the Lincoln Community Foundation.
