Phil Heckman Scholarship

The Phil Heckman Scholarship was established in 1994 to honor the service of Phil Heckman to the Lincoln Community Foundation. Dr. Heckman was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Following graduation from high school, he served in the South Pacific in WWII. He received undergraduate and Masters degrees and began his professional career with the YMCA. Dr. Heckman left the east coast in the mid-1960s for a position as Vice President at Yankton College in South Dakota. In 1967, Dr. Heckman began a twenty year term as President of Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Retiring in 1987, Dr. Heckman accepted the position of President of the Lincoln Community Foundation and served in that capacity until 1994.

To apply, you must be a current graduating senior of a public or private high school in Lincoln, Nebraska, who has demonstrated academic success in high school studies. The applicant must be pursuing undergraduate studies at Doane University in Crete, Nebraska and must demonstrate financial need.
